Dwight Yorke Stadium

The Dwight Yorke Stadium is located in Bacolet, Tobago, only minutes from the capital of Tobago, Scarborough, and 25 minutes from Tobago’s airport. It was constructed for the 2001 FIFA Under 17 World Championships, which was hosted in that year by Trinidad and Tobago.

The stadium was named after Dwight Eversley Yorke, a footballer hailing from Canaan, Tobago. Dwight Yorke’s FIFA World Cup debut occurred when he was 17 years old in a qualifying match between Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador, which took place on July 30, 1989 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. As of 2015, Dwight Yorke, along with Russell Latapy and Pat Jennings, holds the record number of participations in different World Cup competitions, including qualifying stages: six (6) in total.

The stadium was used to host the 2005 Carifta Track and Field Championships and the 2010 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup. It is used by the local football team and is also used for athletics events in Tobago.
