Community Development Day

Community Development Day was declared by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in 2013. This day was declared by the Honourable Minister of Community Development on July 5th 2013. Cabinet agreed by minute no 875-2013/04/04 CD (13) 6 for the declaration of this day.

Intended to highlight the Ministry’s work through its various intervention strategies with key stakeholders and partners in the community sector, the celebration was conceptualised as a day where people can be sensitised about the importance of community involvement, community decision making and community development.

Every year there is a programme of activities that culminate on July 5th, Community Development Day. While these activities are revised on a yearly basis, the vision remains the same, as the Ministry strives to educate persons about:

  • Getting more involved in the community development and volunteerism in their area
  • Registering new and existing groups
  • Becoming better acquainted with the programmes offered by the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts

This annual celebration has yielded great success as we continue to host regional seminars as well as incorporate various programme of the Ministry to encourage community participation. Additional information on the planned activities for upcoming Community Development Day celebrations will be made available in the daily newspapers and here at the ministry’s website as they become available.
