Best Village 2025

RULES, REGULATIONS AND
PROCEDURES 2025
OVERALL GUIDELINES

The theme for the 2025 Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition is “Safeguarding the Legacy.”

Since the dawn of our Independence, the Prime Minister’s Best Village Programme has been a vibrant platform dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich heritage, culture, and spirit of our people. As we move into 2025, the Best Village Unit, in the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, will place a special focus on ensuring that our folk traditions are not only preserved, but presented in their full historical and cultural context, highlighting their significance to our nation.

This year, we are committed to breathing new life into our Folk Dance Traditions, offering specialized training and workshops for both groups and tutors. Additionally, we will continue to nurture the talents of our young people by reserving three competition categories exclusively for children aged 13 and under, providing them with a supportive space to shine within the Best Village programme.

At the heart of the Folk Presentations Competition is the spirit of community and unity. Participants come together within their local communities to prepare for the competition, then unite at the district level for friendly rivalry, before culminating in the grand finals where groups from across Trinidad and Tobago gather to compete, connect, and showcase the very best of Best Village. This multi-layered engagement fosters national pride, strengthens social bonds, and celebrates the power of healthy competition.

The La Reine Rive Competition has become a true highlight of the Best Village Programme. The young women vying for the coveted Miss La Reine Rive title embody the finest aspects of the competition. The training and experiences they gain enrich their lives and serve as a testament to their community’s dedication to developing human potential and leadership.

The Junior Best Village Programme stands as our cornerstone for securing the future of Best Village traditions. Through this non-competitive camp for children aged 6-17, we ensure the next generation inherits the legacy of our cultural practices. Held during the July-August vacation, the programme immerses young participants in the history, crafts, cuisine, language, customs, and performing arts of the diverse peoples who shaped Trinidad and Tobago. Beyond cultural education, the programme emphasizes the development of life skills, discipline, and personal growth.

Together, these initiatives are more than just a celebration of our past—they are an investment in our future, safeguarding the living legacy of our nation for generations to come.
