Description: In our videos the family has highlighted how various safe and nutritious food can be produced on a small scale using both innovation and sustainability at it's core. On our 120 sq ft space there is a combination of grow-boxes along with recycled plant pots, growbags and a trellis that promotes vertical growth. our fertigation system which utilizes harvested rainwater is powered using renewable energy and the greenhouse like structures constructed have served it's purpose in protecting our crops from the harsh fluctuations in climatic conditions due to climate change while at the same time reducing water loss as well as aiding with pest management. Kitchen scraps produced by the family is vermicomposted to provide extra fertilizer for crops and our combination of integrated pest management along with the use of organic pesticide regimes has also minimized our use of harmful chemicals which will aid in promoting a healthier lifestyle. Crops harvested to date include chive, celery, Chadon beni, lettuce patchoi, cucumbers, kale, broccoli and cabbage which have been shared with neighbors and consumed by the family. Crops still to be harvested include pimentos, melongene, cauliflower and tomato.
