Description: Come jump on the Agri Train as we take YOU, on a growing journey as we put the culture back in Agriculture as we showcase our backyard garden with the young, aspiring female entrepreneur, Ms. Esther Musgrave. The plants were planted in an intercropped bucket system with included crops such as Tomatoes, Lettuce, Chive, Hot pepper, Sweet pepper and Amarantus (Bhaji). Each container holds up to 3 gallons of soil which is sufficient space for each crop to grow. Each bucket was intercropped with a long term crop and a short term crop to make efficient use of the space. This garden was done in a small space of 50 feet x 35 feet. We have implemented an Integrated Pest Management Strategies' by intercropping seasoning with the other crops to ward of harmful insects such as mealy bugs, whiteflies, grasshoppers etc. Flowers are present in the garden to attract pollinators to crops such as the Tomatoes, sweet peppers and hot peppers. The plants were mulched after planting and a mixture of home made compost and cow manure was mixed into the buckets before the crops were planted. The Lettuce, Chive, Sweet Peppers, Tomatoes and Bhaji were planted on 14th June, 2024 whereas the Hot Peppers and more Sweet Peppers were planted on 30th June, 2024. Only Organic Pesticides have been used in this garden. Let's get growing with the Ministry of Sport and Community Development in our Grow It Yourself Programme.
