Waiver Support For National Govering Bodies (NGBS)

The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT), continues to provide an enabling environment for sporting activities, disciplines and National Governing Bodies (NGBs). This can be seen in the company’s latest financials.
In spite of the pandemic, SporTT continues to provide waivers to its NGB partners. Waivers are qualified as facilities rental, office space, storage rental and sports sciences services used such as physiotherapy, gym use, evaluation and testing, etc. These waivers also apply to certain government agencies and ministries and a few registered NGOs.

SporTT Chairman Douglas Camacho notes that, “the board of SporTT decided in 2019 that a new invoice system should begin so NGB organisations can do more transparent bookkeeping. The system is meant to help them with their internal processes and lead to a more efficient interaction especially with international organisations.”

To this end SporTT has seen in 2020 as at September 30, approximately three million seven hundred thousand ($3,735,239.00) dollars in waivers passed on to partner bodies for use of our various facilities. This includes space used by our (15 current) partner NGBs as secretariats and for storage. Added to this SporTT has made an  approximate 7.4 million dollars in cash contributions to NGBs for various activities and expenditures related to their operations, such as travel etc.

Another significant value-added service was provided by the Elite Development and Performance Unit (EDPU). The waiver of fees for podium potential athletes, across 13 NGBs & Coach Development workshops totalled approximately seven hundred thousand ($691,340.00) dollars.

SporTT Chief Executive Officer Jason Williams says, “while we prepare for a challenging few months ahead, it is always good to remember that we can still provide these savings to our partners thereby allowing them to keep afloat in what we all can acknowledge will be a time for reassessment and tighter fiscal management.”
