Ready. Set. Walk! The MSCD Girls Run TT Challenge is off!

The MSCD’s announcement of the 340 women and girls to participate in the “GirlsRunTT” Challenge has triggered an avalanche of excitement among challenge participants and the general public. On April 5th, the Ministry announced via its social media pages the names of all participants, after which persons were asked to verify their registration details with Bafasports. Participants ranged in ages from as young as 12 years old to over 80 years; a testament to the keen interest in fitness challenges during this time.

To date, the MSCD has seen over 121 participants starting the races, with an impressive 1851 miles already covered as of today, Friday 23rd April. The Ministry also takes this opportunity to announce the special prizes up for grabs for all participants. These include prizes for: the youngest participant, oldest participant, group prize, first to complete 20 miles, first to complete 70 miles, most improved runner, and most engaged on social media. All participants will have until August 31st to complete the Magnificent 70 Mile Challenge, which comprises 7 virtual races paying tribute to the Magnificent Seven Buildings around the Queen’s Park Savannah. Commemorative medals celebrating the architectural splendor of these buildings will be awarded to persons completing the challenge.

The “GirlsRunTT” Challenge is one component of the Pink Reign Campaign, which seeks to increase the participation of women and girls in sport and physical activity. This comprehensive campaign will run from April to August 31st, 2021 and entails four pillars comprising virtual races, panel discussions, sport training sessions and weekly social media highlights.   Interested stakeholders can visit mscd.gov.tt for more information about the campaign.
