MSCD MPowerTT launches Life Skills Training

On Friday 23rd September 2022, the Ministry of Sport and Community Development hosted an Orientation for the Life Skills Training Component of the MpowerTT – Trinidad, at the Government Plaza. Over 200 men, mainly from East Port of Spain and other areas throughout Trinidad, gathered at the Plaza for the start of the second component of MpowerTT, which will commence on October 3rd, 2022.

In her address, the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Sport and Community Development, expressed her passion for the project and noted that the programme will impact men across Trinidad and Tobago. She emphasized that the MpowerTT will promote positive images and messages for young men and will encourage them towards making wise decisions, channelling their energies, mapping their future paths and leading more valuable and rewarding lives. Minister Cudjoe anticipates several success stories from both cohorts and already sees great potential in the Tobago participants who began their training on September 12th.
Other notable attendees included the Honourable Adrian Leonce, Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development; Mrs. Gwyneth Morris-Alexander, Director, Community Development Division; TV and Radio Personalities Mr. James Saunders and Hans Des Vignes, Akeem ‘Preedy’ Chance, Luke Quamina, Joel Pile, Roland Musgrave, members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG), and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF). 
 
 
 
About MpowerTT

MpowerTT is a project of the Ministry of Sport and Community Development that is geared towards male development in communities by creating public awareness of the importance of positive male role models within our communities, schools and households.


It is comprised of four main components:


Component 1 will include weekly lounge talks on critical topics with young men across the nation.

Component 2 will entail soft-skills training.

Component 3 will focus on career guidance.

Component 4 constitutes one-on-one mentorship.


The Life Skills Training in Trinidad will take place over the course of two weeks at eight locations across Trinidad.
