Artists Meet and Greet at Spiritual Integration

“This exhibition brings the awareness and memory of the Shouter Baptist Faith into the 21st century and I would like to praise the work of the National Museum in this regard. The images featured really represent the Shouter Baptist Faith and help us reconnect to our past. Here we see the symbols of the bell, the bible, the candle and voice … I am really happy to see these images further projected in a public space.”

Mr. Kenwyn Crichlow – accomplished artist and former Mentor for the Mentoring by the Masters Programme of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts – was high in praise of the Artist Meet and Greet for the Spiritual Integration Exhibition at the National Museum and Art Gallery, Port of Spain on Wednesday 10th May, 2017.

The Artist Meet and Greet for the Spiritual Integration Exhibition provided an opportunity for art enthusiasts to mix and mingle with the artist to discuss their work. There was a warm atmosphere where artists including Kenwyn Crichlow, Althea Bastien, Makemaba Kunle, Turunesh, Damion Moore, SahFyhr and David Thomas mingled with art lovers.

Keomi Serrette – Exhibition Curator of the National Museum and Art Gallery was grateful to all in attendance, “I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of the artists here, who have lent their support for this exhibit. Spiritual Integration explores the symbolisms and fundamentals associated with our country’s diverse cultural heritage.”

Several of the artists expressed their pride in being part of the exhibition. Multi-disciplinary artist, SahFyhr said “It was really an honour to be amongst other prominent artists in Trinidad and Tobago particularly in the same space as my mentors Kenwyn Crichlow and Turunesh. It’s also really special to have my work featured in the National Museum especially as a break-out artist.”

Ms Lorraine Johnson – Curator, National Museum and Art Gallery was also present and she encouraged people to visit the museum to see Spiritual Integration which runs until Saturday 27th May, 2017 at the Revolving Gallery, Ground Floor, National Museum and Arts Gallery, 117 Frederick Street.

Ms Johnson also highlighted two upcoming activities that will take place at the National Museum on:

Thursday 18th May, 2017 – International Museum Day which include scavenger hunts for visitors, trivia games and give-aways.

Friday 26th May, 2017 – Start of Imprints: An exhibition to mark the Centennial Anniversary for the Abolition of Indian Indentureship (1917-2017).
