MINISTRY OF SPORT AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WELCOMES NEW SPORTING MEASURE MENTIONED AT BUDGET PRESENTATION

The Ministry of Sport and Community Development (MSCD) welcomes the new measure announced by Minister of Finance, the Honourable Colm Imbert at the budget presentation. On Monday, September 30, 2024 Minister Imbert announced the exemption of all sporting equipment from taxes and duties with the exception of clothing items from January 1, 2025.

This measure which will promote healthy lifestyle decisions will be an added layer of support to all budding and professional sport enthusiasts in Trinidad and Tobago saving them substantial sums each year which can be diverted to new avenues geared to hone their athletic abilities. Currently, the MSCD provides funding to support Sport for Development. Grants are provided under the Elite Athlete Assistance Programme, Sport Grant for Organisations and Individuals and funding in support of projects that contribute to community empowerment.

Minister of Sport and Community Development, the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis looks forward to this new amendment which will translate to further participation in sporting activities throughout the nation, ultimately leading more citizens to achieve greater physical fitness.
