MSCD Launches “GirlsRunTT” Challenge for #IWD2022

In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2022 (#IWD2022), the Ministry of Sport and Community Development (MSCD) is launching the 2nd Edition of #GirlsrunTT. This Road Race Challenge is a key component of the Ministry’s Pink Reign Campaign which promotes the participation of women and girls in physical activities and sport. This year, the MSCD will enroll and sponsor 400 women and girls to participate in a virtual road race covering 83 miles between the months of April and August 2022.

The MSCD is partnering with BafaSports Limited on this #GirlsRunTT initiative once again. This year, runners will take on the BafaSports’ Active Tobago 83-mile Challenge which takes participants on a virtual journey celebrating the beauty and splendour of Tobago, including Pigeon Point, the leatherback turtle, Goat racing, Brain Coral, Bird of Paradise, Crab, Glass bottom boat, Cocrico, and Fort King George, one of Tobago’s most well-preserved historical sites.  The virtual race aims to challenge women of various fitness levels to exercise, improve their physical health, and inspire other women to keep moving. The Ministry of Sport and Community Development is dedicating this initiative in tribute to the late ‘Granny’ Luces, one of T&T’s most beloved road runners.

The Pink Reign Campaign also includes a series of “Let her Play” which is a Sport Caravan showcasing women and girls in sports. The programme will feature virtual life skills training workshops and panel discussions that may contribute to the personal and professional development of girls and young women. The #GirlsRunTT Challenge kicks off the MSCD Pink Reign Campaign for 2022 and issues a call to all women and girls across Trinidad and Tobago to join the campaign to get physically active and participate in sports.

Interested participants can register from March 8th-16th via mscd.gov.tt or the MSCD social media pages. Applicants are required to state in 25 words or less what they #choosetochallenge in recognition of International Women’s Day 2022. Selected participants will be announced via the Ministry’s social media pages on 29th March, 2022.
