MSCD announces new Director of Physical Education and Sport Division, Mr. Gabre Mc Tair

The Ministry of Sport and Community Development is pleased to formally announce the appointment of Mr. Gabre Mc Tair as its new Director of Physical Education and Sport Division.

Mr. Mc Tair is a seasoned sporting professional, having served as a Sport Officer I and acting Assistant Director, with oversight of technical and administrative matters related to the National Governing Bodies and serving as a key liaison between the sporting facilities, stakeholders and the Ministry. In this new position as Director, he has a much more strategic role in the development of Sport as articulated in the National Sport Policy of Trinidad and Tobago. This role speaks to enriching lives through total participation, quality training, and excellence in Sport through the development and implementation of projects and programmes to support sport development and national development through Sport.

In his new role as Director, Mc Tair says that his job “manifests itself through acts of service,” and “will continue to educate, influence change in perspective, and assist worthy causes while supporting the development of sporting talent.” One exciting initiative he is eager to materialize is the Healthy Spaces Youth Health TT Initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, where fitness equipment will be installed at various government-owned Community Centres throughout the nation. “This will create improved access to exercise facilities for youth in communities, where gym spaces are either sparse, non-existent, or cost-prohibitive.” Mr. Mc Tair has already left the starting blocks with his work on the Ministry’s first-ever comprehensive digital sports calendar for 2021.

Mr. Mc Tair holds a Certificate in the Art and Science of Coaching at University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine, Bachelors of Science Degree in Physical Education and Sport from the International School of Physical Education and Sport in Havana, Cuba, a certificate in Sport Marketing and Management, diplomas in Sport Psychology and Therapeutic Massage, and is currently completing his Masters in Sport for Development at the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

He serves the T&T Powerlifting Federation as the Certified International Powerlifting Federation Category II Referee. He has assisted both the T&T and Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federations with their referee and athlete development over several years. He has also served as a full-time academic instructor at the University of Trinidad and Tobago and as a part-time lecturer with the University of the West Indies.  In addition, he satisfies his passion for health and fitness as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer.

Congratulations to Mr. Gabre McTair on his Appointment!
