The Bel's family kitchen garden is one that focuses on innovation and has sustainability as its main driving force. We have successfully designed, constructed and integrated a water harvesting system into our garden setup, this is what supplies the irrigation system with water and fertilizer which the plants require for growth and development.
Special containers that have been repurposed serve as composting compartments within the beds and these facilities the extra availability of nutrients from kitchen scraps. Similarly a repurposed barrel serves as a vertical planter which also facilities composting. Between the grow boxes is a neatly designed landscaped area with a solar powered water fountain, the space is populated with small flowering shrubs, these encourage a wide variety of pollinators. Plants also present throughout the system include marigolds and rosemary, these along with the chive plants, homemade pesticides and organic ones such as neem oil help to deter pests.

6 heads of patchoi
6 heads of lettuce
14 Celery leaves
12 heads of chive
2 large bundles of parsley
Crops harvested were consumed within the household as well as distributed among family, close friends neighbours and coworkers.
Crops that are entering the production phase include : tomatoes, sweet peppers, cucumbers and cabbage.
